picture alliance / Daniel Kubirski Due to the explosive increase in corona incidences around the world, numerous countries have tightened their entry regulations. In many places, only fully vaccinated people are allowed to enter the country. 15 countries – including popular destinations like Cuba, Canada and Singapore – have implemented the 1G rule. Many also require a negative Covid 19 test as proof. After the discovery of the omicron variant and the associated new corona wave around the world, numerous countries are resorting to stricter entry regulations. Under stricter rules, it will no longer be sufficient everywhere to show proof of recovery or a negative test. According to a report by “Welt”, 15 countries have so far introduced the so-called 1G regulation, according to which only tourists who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 are allowed to enter. A negative test is often required on top of that. Among the 1G destinations are many internationally popular holiday destinations. We summarize here for you which countries these are and what you need to consider where.
Since November 8, 2021, vaccinated tourists have officially been allowed to enter the USA again. Since the beginning of December, a test has also been mandatory for all travelers aged two and over. The negative Covid test must not be older than 24 hours at the time of departure. Those who have recovered must present a corresponding medical certificate and may only enter the country if they are fully vaccinated.
Stricter rules will apply in Canada from January 15, 2022. According to the Foreign Office, all travelers without exception must then be fully vaccinated. In addition, all travelers aged five and over must have a negative PCR test result ready at the border checkpoint, which must not be older than 72 hours at the time of departure. It is also mandatory for everyone to register the ArriveCAN app.
From February 8, 2022, vaccinations will also be compulsory for adult tourists in Costa Rica. In general, only vaccinated people will be allowed access to hotels, cinemas, restaurants, national parks and other facilities. Until the quasi-lockdown for the unvaccinated is introduced, the owners themselves are still free to decide whether they only allow vaccinated people or also unvaccinated ones – but then only at 50 percent capacity. All travelers must also fill out an online health form and, if fully vaccinated, will receive a QR code, which is used as proof of vaccination in the Central American country.
Since January 5, 2022, the 1G Plus rule has also applied to the communist Caribbean island. Those entering the country must present proof of vaccination and a negative PCR test that is no more than 72 hours old. Children under the age of twelve are an exception to this rule. In addition, all tourists must register upon entry.
Since December 14, 2021, adults entering the country must provide proof of a Covid-19 vaccination certificate (at least two vaccinations). If the vaccination is incomplete, a negative PCR test not older than 72 hours must also be submitted. Travelers arriving on a cruise ship must also present a negative PCR test that is no more than 72 hours old at the time of departure.
Nothing works in Ecuador without a vaccination certificate and a negative PCR test that is not older than 72 hours. Since December 1, the 1G Plus regulation has also applied to all travelers aged 16 and over in the South American country. Tourists are only allowed to enter by plane and everyone has to fill out a digital health declaration before departure.

A negative test result and a health declaration completed online are also required. Cruise tourists – regardless of vaccination status – are currently generally not allowed to enter the country.
Argentina kept its borders closed until October, but since November 1, 2021, tourists with full vaccination and a negative PCR test (no older than 72 hours) have been officially allowed to vacation in the country again. In addition, the government requires an affidavit of no symptoms and travel insurance. According to the Federal Foreign Office, holidaymakers over the age of six must take an additional PCR test between the third and fifth day after entry. Until then, tourists are excluded from major events and events in closed rooms.
Since January 12, visitors aged 18 and over must provide proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 and a negative corona test to enter Paraguay. Children under the age of twelve are an exception to this rule.
According to the Federal Foreign Office, the African country is considered a high-risk area and is severely affected by the pandemic. Entry into Kenya is therefore only permitted for travelers aged five and over with a negative PCR test that is not older than 72 hours. In addition, all travelers over the age of 18 must submit proof of full vaccination protection, which can be scanned using a QR code and, like the PCR test, must be uploaded to the “Global Heaven” certification website. After entry, a 14-day quarantine follows. This is waived if the holidaymaker comes from a country that is on Kenya’s negative list. Germany is currently on this list, so German citizens are currently spared quarantine.
Tunisia is also taking tougher measures. Only fully vaccinated people are allowed to enter the country. Any exceptions, such as those for package tourists, are abolished. In addition, travelers must provide evidence of a negative PCR test with a QR code, which must not have been more than 48 hours in the past. For children from the age of six, only one test is compulsory.
If you want to enter Oman, you need proof of vaccination and have to register online beforehand. Children under the age of 18 are exempt from the obligation to provide proof of vaccination. Quarantine is only necessary if there is no negative PCR test that is no more than 72 hours old. The Federal Foreign Office reports that the Omani police strictly monitor compliance with hygiene rules, such as wearing a mask, and punish violations. Attention: even shaking hands is forbidden.
Fully vaccinated people from Germany can enter Singapore via the so-called “Vaccinated Travel Lane” (VTL). To do this, a “Vaccinated Travel Pass” must be requested in advance via the Safe Travel website. In addition to full vaccination in Singapore or another country for which the VTL procedure applies, a further requirement for entry is a negative rapid test or PCR test before the start of the trip. In addition, passengers must use a “VTL” direct flight, which is only accessible to vaccinated persons, and undergo another PCR test upon arrival. Furthermore, travel health insurance and the use of the “Trace Together” app are mandatory. According to Lufthansa, however, Singapore has suspended new bookings of VTL tickets until January 20, 2022.

Visitors must present a negative PCR test no more than 72 hours old and travel medical insurance covering at least US$50,000 in addition to the mandatory vaccination certificate. A repeat test will be carried out upon entry. A quarantine is ordered until the test result is available after about 24 hours. All travelers are required to use the Lao KYC app.
