On Thursday, Tesla shares lost almost 7 percent to $ 1031.56, and because there was not much else that was new, this slump was attributed to a message that the car portal Edmunds had published a week earlier: Tesla has announced the the expected start of delivery of the Cybertruck has been removed from its website. This caused some excitement and even speculation that the e-pickup would no longer come. But on the same day, an analyst wrote that the Cybertruck would even be available in two different sizes. And a news agency got an unofficial confirmation that it is still planned – albeit with even more delay.

Frequently changing Tesla information

The Cybertruck was unveiled in November 2019 and was originally scheduled to go into production by the end of 2021. This initially became 2022 in August of that year, and in mid-October Tesla – as later with the Model S and Model X in Europe – completely deleted the statement on its website. However, this seems to have escaped even some close observers in the USA. This is how Tesla investor Gary Black reacted on Twitter to one of the current reports about the cancellation. Although he described it as not serious for the stock, he indicated that he believed the information was new. In fact, you can see the frequently changing Tesla information on the Internet, including Twitter statements from CEO Elon Musk and his occasional live appearances get confused – especially since the company almost never answers questions about it. The news agency Reuters tried anyway and received at least one unofficial piece of information: Tesla now wants to produce the first cybertrucks in the first quarter of 2023, it reported early on Friday, citing informed people.

Broker: 2 Cybertruck sizes planned

That would actually be another shift. CEO Musk last mentioned times last October: The most likely start of Cybertruck production is in 2022 and series production from 2023, he said at the Tesla Annual General Meeting. According to the Reuters report, not even the first cybertrucks would be built this year. Work is still underway to ensure the Tesla pickup truck is compelling given the increasing competition in the segment, the source is said to have said. For example, ahead of the Tesla product roadmap update that he announced for a conference call in late January, Musk revealed that the Cybertruck will have up to four engines.

In any case, there can be no question of saying goodbye to the pickup plans. Instead, a new rumor appeared on Thursday that goes in the opposite direction: According to an analyst at Global Equities Research, there should even be two Tesla Cybertrucks, namely in a smaller version, according to Twitter excerpts reported by the financial portal StreetInsider. Both variants are said to be “considerably changed” compared to the previously known prototypes. Unlike many other observers, the broker does not expect new information about the Cybertruck in the Musk update at the end of January, but at a separate event in March.
