The name Energieverbund-Arena will disappear from the Dresden ice rink in the next few months. A company from the city has acquired the rights. The Dresden-based automotive supplier Joynext has acquired the naming rights, as the company announced on Friday. Consequently, the stadium becomes the Joynext Arena. The stadium was previously called the Energy Network Arena. The contract, which was signed on Friday between the state capital of Dresden and Joynext, will initially run for three years. According to the company, the lettering is to be attached to the hall in the course of the first half of the year. The arena with its three ice rinks also includes a ball game hall. The complex was opened in 2007. It is the home ground of the Dresden Ice Lions. “We are proud that we can support this wide range with our commitment and look forward to working together,” says Managing Director Stavros Mitrakis.

First the Freiberger Arena, then the Energy Network Arena

This partnership is an appreciation of the city-operated ice sports arena, which, with its three ice rinks and nine-field ball game hall, is one of the largest and most important sports properties in the region, according to Sports Mayor Peter Lames (SPD).
First, the Freiberger brewery held the naming rights. Since 2010, the complex has been called Energieverbund-Arena, named after Energieverbund Dresden GmbH, which belongs to the municipal subsidiary Technische Werke Dresden (TWD) and in which several East Saxon municipal utilities are organized. According to its own information, the new namesake Joynext has around 1,300 employees.
