Mobvoi has already provided us with the TicWatch S2, TicWatch C2 and the TicWatch Pro 4G LTE for various test reports. For today’s test report, we were kindly provided with the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS, which also runs on Google’s WearOS operating system.

TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS – Appearance/Design
The TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS is a sporty watch with a 22mm wide fluororubber strap. The dimensions are 47 × 48 x 12.3 mm. The bezel around the display is patterned. There are two snaps on the side in the top view. The top (power button) to turn the watch on and off, the bottom (multifunction button) to launch a sports app or open quick settings. The microphone is located between the two snaps. The charging pins and the HD PPG sensor are on the underside. On the opposite side of the microphone is the speaker.
TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS Display
The display of the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS is a 1.4-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 454*454 pixels. This results in a pixel density of 326 ppi. You can select the various programs by touch. Readability is good in all lighting conditions. The Pro 3 Ultra GPS can be used either with an AMOLED screen in always-on mode or with an LCD screen. Only the most important data such as time, date and number of steps can be seen on the LCD screen. The LCD screen is more energy efficient overall. Another option is the backlight. Here the display of the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS can be colored and the intensity can also be regulated.
TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS – Commissioning/App
To turn on the TicWatch, long press the top button on the side of the watch. If the watch is not charged, first place it in the charging dock and wait a moment. After the watch has started, the display will show “Tap to begin” You click on the display to select your language. Now it’s about protecting your privacy, whereby you have to confirm that you have read the text. You will be informed that you must now load WearOS by Google as an app onto your smartphone and open it. Pairing with the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS is done without much effort. Then you copy your Google account and connect the smartwatch to your WLAN, grant access to notifications, calendar, contacts and location. To try out other options of your smartwatch, download the Mobvoi app (formerly TicWatch) from the Play Store. In the app you add the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS. To do this, you register either by email or with a Google account. Then the app shows your progress, activity, sport, sleep and more. The Mobvoi app is divided into four tabs: Home, Device, Explore, Account. The start page contains all activities as well as the option of uploading a new watch face via the Watch Face Center, which is subject to a fee. The Device tab shows the connected watch as well as various options such as audio recording, setting, screenshot of the watch. The Explore tab includes the community, activities, and special offers. In the Account tab you can find your personal fitness and health report, recorded voice messages, authorized third parties (in this case WearOS), watch settings and more.
TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS Usage
Since the TicWatch runs on Google’s WearOS operating system, you also give all permissions to record steps and more via the watch. A new watch face can then be selected via the WearOS app with a click. With a swipe from the bottom up over the watch face you open all notifications, such as information about WearOS with instructions. The TicWatch offers various sports modes: running (outdoor, indoor, walk), cycling (indoor and outdoor), free training, swimming, high-intensity interval training, rowing, elliptical trainer, aerobics, cross-country running, hiking, yoga, soccer, basketball, pilates, Taekwondo, badminton, table tennis and ice skating. Use the settings button to customize the sport modes. For example, automatic recognition is possible, purpose of exercise, lap counting and auto pause. To get new workout modes, search for TicExercise and TicHealth in the Google Play Store and update both apps to the latest versions. With a swipe from top to bottom you open the quick settings. The gear button takes you to the other system settings. In quick settings, turn on Airplane mode, Sound, Find my Phone, Google Pay, Cinema mode (display turns off), and Do not disturb. In the system settings you will find the options Display, Audio, Apps and notifications, Gestures, Connectivity, Accessibility, General, Personalization, Storage and System. From the display you can change the watch face, brightness, font size, enable or disable the always-on display, lock the touchscreen function and choose when the display turns off automatically. It is also possible to adjust the audio via the system settings, with the volume and ringtone of the watch. If you swipe to the right, you open the Google Assistant, with a swipe to the left you open the weather, your active hours and steps taken, your calendar and your heart rate. By clicking on the power button you open the already installed apps, including the Play Store for installing additional apps. With the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS you can record your steps or heart rate and navigate using the integrated GPS. The new heart rate sensor is now called HD PPG and measures more precisely. Other measurements are blood oxygen (SpO2), noise and 24-hour monitoring of physical and mental condition. The TicWatch measures heart rate variability every 30 minutes to determine your current energy level. Thanks to the NFC sensor, the TicWatch can also be used as a mobile payment system via Google Pay. There are also various sport or exercise/sport modes. Furthermore, all your e-mails, WhatsApp and more are displayed quickly and without delay on the watch and can be answered there by chip, voice, etc. Telephoning is also possible if the connected smartphone is nearby. Communication via the microphone and loudspeaker is good. The Pro 3 Ultra GPS also has an internal memory for music, but here too the smartphone must be nearby and a subscription must be available. The Google Assistant is also easy to use. If required, apps such as an Internet browser (Samsung Internet browser) for WearOS can be loaded from the Play Store. However, “surfing” is not comparable to surfing on a PC or smartphone, but it works.
TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS – Essential mode, setting the backlight
The TicWatch can be used in either Always-On-Display mode or Essential mode. in the Essential mode is adjusting the backlight in 18 different colors possible. According to the instructions, go to Essential Mode (found in System Preferences) and then Settings. There you activate Tilt to light up backlight and tap on one of the 18 colors for the backlight. However, this setting is not feasible. As soon as you have activated the essential mode, nothing can be adjusted at all. Here you must first use the top button to call up the installed apps and then the App essential mode choose. In the app, swipe to the left to access the settings described. From there, turn on Tilt to turn on Backlight and scroll down to the Backlight Color option. The color palette will then appear and you can select a colour.
TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS – Battery
When used with the always-on display, the battery of the Pro 3 Ultra GPS lasts about 1-1.5 days. With the FSTN display/essential mode, which only shows the basic information such as time, steps, etc., the energy consumption is minimized and the battery lasts almost 3 days. When using GPS, the duration is reduced accordingly. The TicWatch needs about 3 hours to fully charge the battery. According to the manufacturer, the battery can last up to 45 days when used in essential mode, but only under minimal conditions (no GPS, no recording, etc.).
TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS – Conclusion
The TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS has a clean finish and is easy to pair. The steps and the distance traveled via GPS are recorded and correspond to those of the Fitbit Versa 3.
