Conviction for “El Marro” 60 years in prison for Mexican drug lord

In the Mexican state of Guanajuato, gang boss “El Marro” is fighting a bloody gang war. Then the police managed to arrest the 41-year-old. He is now going to prison for a long time for his actions.
A Mexican court has sentenced one of the country’s most notorious drug lords, Jose Antonio Yepez, to 60 years in prison. As the prosecutor of the central state of Guanajuato announced in a Twitter post on Friday, Yepez, also known as “El Marro” (“The Thug”) and his accomplices had been found guilty by a court. The 41-year-old was arrested almost two years ago, which was a great success for President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. At the time, the security forces arrested five other people in addition to Yepez. In addition, a kidnapped businesswoman was freed from the clutches of the drug cartel. An “arsenal” of weapons was also secured during the raid. Yepez made the headlines two months before his arrest. After police arrested his mother, Yepez threatened both the government and rival drug gangs in a video shared on social media. “I’ll be a rock in your shoe. I’ll explode, you’ll see,” Yepez said at the time. The former head of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel has been blamed for the rise in crime in Guanajuato, which has become a hotspot for gang violence. His organization engaged in a bloody power struggle with the rival cartel, Jalisco Nueva Generación, one of the most powerful and violent groups in the country. The Santa Rosa de Lima cartel was also notorious for stealing large quantities of petroleum from the state oil company Pemex.
