Aston Martin changes team boss Vettel’s new boss comes from Germany

After the departure of Otmar Szafnauer, the Aston Martin Formula 1 racing team needs a new team boss. Mike Krack, an old acquaintance of Sebastian Vettel, will take over this position. The two know each other from their time together at BMW-Sauber.
Sebastian Vettel has a new team boss. The British Formula 1 racing team Aston Martin brought in long-standing, high-ranking BMW Motorsport employee Mike Krack to succeed Otmar Szafnauer. He left the team after many years, and it is expected that he will be hired by competitor Alpine. According to “Speedweek”, Krack was head of motorsport at the Bavarian carmaker until recently, responsible for the all-electric Formula E, among other things. Krack has known the four-time world champion Vettel since their times together at BMW-Sauber around a decade and a half ago. In 2006 the Heppenheimer was engaged there as a test driver, in 2007 he celebrated his debut in Formula 1 at the US Grand Prix as a substitute for the injured Robert Kubica and, as the youngest driver at the time, scored a world championship point in eighth place. At the time, Krack was employed as an engineer at Sauber. “It’s fantastic to be reunited with him,” said Vettel’s new boss in a statement, adding: “We’re going to work incredibly hard, we want to win. Together we will.” The decisive factor for Krack’s change was his great desire to return to the premier class. A first highlight of his new term of office will be the presentation of the racing car for the coming season on February 10 – online. The AMR22 will then be unveiled at the British carmaker’s headquarters in Gaydon. It is the second car of the team, which returned to the premier class of motorsport last season but was unable to fulfill its great hopes and ambitions. The cars for the coming season will differ significantly from their predecessor models after drastic aerodynamic changes. It remains to be seen to what extent the rule modifications will also affect the balance of power. The season with a total of 23 races starts on March 20th in Bahrain.
