Commercial Pilot–Academic qualification and admission process

Flying in the air is a dream synonymous to most children. Most kids at some or the other point in their life imagine becoming a commercial pilot. While it is humanly not possible however one can fulfill this dream by flying airplanes. Getting a job as a commercial pilot is the most exciting, glamorous and thrilling job in aviation. Without any doubt, it is one of the most adventurous career options that require you to undergo intensive training however this profession equally demands a lot of time, sacrifice, dedication and patience. This has emerged as one of the most lucrative fields. However, apart from all those glamorous and attractive things, the job of a pilot makes him or her responsible for the aircraft the one he or she is flying and the lives of the crew members and passengers. Pilots are highly trained professionals who are capable of flying commercial airplanes.

Academic qualifications needed for a career in becoming a commercial pilot

As a pilot, one requires extremely high analytical and logical reasoning, navigation skills, operations of mechanical and electronic controls, psychomotor skills and understanding of meteorological reports for leading the aircraft under the adverse situations and circumstances. Equally important is to have decision making skills that help in leading the passengers as well as flight crew under climatic and other emergency circumstances. Science stream with Mathematics and Physics after 10th standard is compulsory to be a pilot.

To get an admission in flying academy or flight training school, one has to clear 12th Standard with Mathematics and Physics as main subject with minimum 50 percent marks. Being a commercial pilot needs a lot of specialized technical training and different levels. In brief, the first level starts with becoming a student pilot that enables a student to learn flying. Next is Private Pilot License that the captain to fly an aircraft without passengers. After gaining training and experience as PPL, one qualifies for the commercial pilot license. The CPL is provided by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. It is the CPL that endorses what airplane you can fly.

Admission process for flight training schools and academics

Most flight training schools and academies conduct entrance admission that you have to appear for if you want to become a pilot. The entrance test is tough and only those who prepare well are able to clear it. You have to furnish the following to get an admission to a reputed flight training school.

• All the documents and certificates (Std. 10th mark sheet, Std. 12th mark sheet and ID’s to name a few)
• Admission formalities have to be completed by the student
• Should be physically and mentally fit for medical test as medical is the most important part of admission to a flight training school

These are some of the main prerequisites that you have to fulfill if you want to become a commercial pilot.
